Is Whey Gluten Free?

Organic milk products contain two natural proteins, casein and whey. These only become available after milk is curdled and the other byproducts are completely dissolved or curdled. What is left is a pure protein which can be added to other food products, or processed into protein powders.

These isolated proteins are rich in nutrients and properties that help build lean muscle, boost metabolism, and ensure proper digestive health. Despite the many nutritional benefits, they can still be harmful to some users.

Natural whey is absolutely gluten free and largely considered a vegetarian product. However, individuals with celiac disease should be wary of products that contain whey but do not keep the protein in its purest form. Cereal bars and many grains that contain whey have been enriched with gluten or ingredients that contain gluten in order to create the desired consistency and texture.
