What is Rice Flour?

Rice flour comes from rice that has been very finely milled. Raw rice is removed from the husk and then ground to make the flour. Rice flour is an excellent substitute for wheat flour for those who have celiac disease or are gluten intolerant. Rice flour is widely used in India, Thailand and most of Asia. Primarily used in desserts, noodles and sauces it is becoming more widely used in the US.

Rice Flour Products

There are a number of dishes and products made from either white or brown rice flour. Rice noodles, breads, gluten free cake, pastas and cookies can all be made from it. Rice flour, particularly sweet rice flour, is also wonderful for making gravies or as a general thickening agent.  Rice flour is also a popular ingredient in batters. If you’ve enjoyed fish n’ chips or other breaded foods in the past, consider giving rice flour a try for an amazingly delicious, gluten-free breading.
