@Bethany: I have to admit, I've been struggling with getting my greens in. I get so bored with salads! I'm doing great with fruit smoothies fore breakfast, but it's all downhill after that. If you'd like to share some tips, I'd love to hear them.

Hello! After reading this post I felt like you were following uncannily close in my footsteps. After an environmental biology course I decided to become a vegan. I lost about 40 pounds following a diet extremely similar to Eat to Live (I hadn't read the book at the time, but later did and loved it. Dr. Fuhrman and I are on the same page) This past year I have also committed to being gluten free as my stomach began bothering me after eating wheat. Trust in his advice - I'm stronger and healthier than I ever was before becoming vegan. It's a wonderful way to go!

Red Velvet cake - please, DO share this recipe. I've got a birthday next month, and it'd be great to have this to celebrate my big birthday (new decade!)

Good luck and best wishes! I love it when people try dietary methods before relying on medication. You might end up needing it, but at least you'll know you tried other means first. I'm super excited to see all your GF, vegan, soyfree recipes!

I also am GF, CF, and soy free - my first hint that I had a problem went unnoticed for years - actually I had two hints. #1 hint was that I had constipation - according to the doctor I have been working with, constipation is a sign of a food allergy. #2 I always felt bloated after eating Chinese Food - I thought it was normal, then blamed it on the MSG, but later found that when I didn't eat any soy I had no problems. I was also told that because the gluten damages the small intestine, and dairy damages the large, they go together. Dairy also causes a myriad of problems including acne, sinus problems, bloat, juvenile diabetes (I've read research on that one) and hyperactivity in children, to name a few of its vices. I've gone GF, DF, SF and just wish I'd done it when I was younger so I would have felt better longer, oh well! Good luck on your search and journey

I'm sincerely hoping that going vegan is right for you! It's cheaper, better for the planet, and karma-free!

It didn't work for me, and I've been doing this diet thing for 8 years now, since I had my son go gluten and casein-free in 2000. I've been refining and changing my diet ever since. Unfortunately for my wallet, I really require meat, and a fair amount of it, too. I found all of this out by trial and error, and paying attention to food reactions.

The good news is, when you find the right diet for you, weight loss is nearly effortless. I lost 80 lbs., most of it in the first year, simply by removing the worst food sensitivities.

The bad news is, you have to give up sugar, for the most part. I didn't get rid of the last 20 lbs until I did, and you'll still have yeast and therefore gut problems if you keep eating sugar.

And I strongly recommend the Blood Type Diet (and if you're really ambitious, the Genotype Diet). If anything ever sounded bogus, this does, lol! But I had found out for myself that I was already pretty much on that diet, and the refinements made a huge difference. For the first time in several years, I was able to sleep with my mouth closed!

I had such great results, that many of my friends have tried this, also with great results, and all the people who needed to lose weight, have, and permanently.

You seem like someone who is intelligent and open-minded, or I wouldn't bother telling you this. I know people have to be completely ready for change before it can happen. But I think you may find that this diet really helps all of your symptoms.

You may also want to know that we're in the process of getting my husband to an allergist, because he's improved, but not entirely, with the blood type/genotype diet, and that's one avenue we're also going to try, because of you. Wish us luck!

You look beautiful, MF. My recommendation is weight training too. If you work those big muscle groups (like a man!!- bench press, squats, dead lifts) you will lose weight fast! Additionally, I think getting more sleep helps. I do a lot of exercises with a ball to rebuild my core too.... I will see if I can find some examples online to stumble you. The ball does double duty- it is great for labor- and they never have them available in L & D when you need it.

I am excited to read about your journey!

I am 5'4" and weigh 123 lbs.
